Ever wonder what it looks like to sew every day without burning out?
For the past two months, I've been documenting my daily sewing progress - one hour sessions where I stop while I'm still enjoying it. You can follow along on my YouTube shorts playlist.
But I didn't start out smoothly.
Right after launching Simple Quilting Studio in December, I started a project and set a deadline - I wanted to have it on my wall before Christmas. Suddenly I was sewing more than an hour a day as I pushed to meet my deadline. Even though I like the finished quilt, and finished 'in time', the process became stressful instead of fun.
I had forgotten to stop while I was still enjoying it.
Now? One-hour sessions.
And in a month, I :
- finished a Riley Blake door banner that had been sitting unfinished since May and played with new background quilting fills
- made a couple kitty mug rugs from the Missouri Star Christmas box (I have two new grand kitties!)
- started a brand new quilt
If I just stop instead of pushing to finish things, I always want to come back tomorrow :)
Looking for a small project for yourself?
I've got a new free Heart Block Pillow pattern waiting in the community. Every step explained simply enough for a beginner with detailed videos.
I also just made a YouTube tutorial for the heart block that's in all my heart patterns (pillow, table runner, throw quilt). You'll know exactly what to expect before you cut fabric.
Happy sewing! ;)
Sara
P.S. I'm currently uploading Master Your Machine to the community. It will be available there in mid February - along with all my tutorials from YouTube AND a great bunch of quilter friends :)
