It's starting to get a little chilly where I am (okay, maybe it's really just not blasting hot anymore) and that means I need more quilts :)
I've recently longarm quilted a top that my daughter pieced and used the opportunity to make a YouTube explaining what exactly longarming is - you can see it here - What does longarming a quilt mean?
If you're a brand new quilter or wanna be quilter and have heard the term longarm/longarmer and wondered what it is - this answers your questions and gives you a few tips to make your relationship with your longarmer a positive one.
Hexagon Quilt
It was such a joy to quilt this quilt for my daughter :). A couple emails ago I shared her story of running out of fabric and you can see how she addressed the challenge of needing to add different fabric in her finished top. That lighter stripe across the middle is the added fabric. She did a great job!
This is the quilt fresh off the longarm. She will do the binding once I get it back to her.
My next pattern
My own piecing is a little slow. I've been working on a pattern for a throw sized quilt. I have finally managed to slog through the pattern writing and am now test piecing it. It is a heart quilt, but I'm making it up as red, white, and blue this first pass through.
This allowed me to use up more of the infinite number of blue fat quarters from my late mother's stash, and also make a patriotic quilt.
As part of piecing, I filmed some footage for a video on different methods of trimming half square triangles, so that should be coming to your inbox next.
But in the meantime?
I'm headed out of town to hold my first grandchild! I can't share pictures (because the rest of you would just be too jealous, she's so beautiful) but everyone is healthy and happy :). And I did recently get a picture of her playing on the texture quilt I made :) :)

But I didn't start out smoothly. Right after launching Simple Quilting Studio in December, I started a project and set a deadline - I wanted to have it on my...
Building confidence on your quilting journey Need to say goodbye? Unsubscribe here I just got back from driving across the country for Thanksgiving - three family dinners in three different places. But now that I'm back, I'm ready to open the doors – Simple Quilting Studio is here - and it's now the home for all my patterns, courses and new community! You're invited as a founding member. I'm opening the...
Building confidence on your quilting journey Need to say goodbye? Unsubscribe here It's November already! At the beginning of last month I went to Houston for the International Quilt Festival. You can read about my experience - and the classes I took - in this blog post. There's things I would do again... and things I would definitely NOT do again ;) New things to play with on the longarm Since I've been home, I've been working on changing my mindset around sewing. I realized I'd become so...
